Tideworks launches operating system for intermodal terminals

Tideworks Technology has announced the availability of Intermodal ProTM, a comprehensive terminal operating system (TOS) for intermodal terminals.

Intermodal Pro includes intuitive graphical tools and flexible user-driven reporting that eliminates the guesswork from intermodal terminal operations, enables more efficient loading and unloading of trains, and boosts productivity while reducing operational costs.

With more and more intermodal terminal operators replacing legacy systems and seeking solutions that allow more efficient and cost effective management of their terminals, Tideworks designed Intermodal Pro by evolving the company's Spinnaker Planning Management System® (a vessel, berth, yard and rail planning solution) to fit the specific needs of intermodal terminals.

Intermodal Pro offers automated planning tools that accelerate loading, unloading and gate operations whilst maximising space utilisation. The system's flexible, user-driven reporting tools and centralised network topology allow intermodal terminal operators to centralise planning, equipment tracking and gate operations from multiple terminals.

In addition, a sophisticated electronic data interchange (EDI) engine and translator enables terminals to trade booking and billing data, exchanging sensitive information with customers, partners and back-office systems.

Automated dispatch and optimisation functionality, available with the Traffic ControlTM module, transmit container move instructions to equipment operators, and real-time 3-D views give terminal operators instant visibility into the status of container moves, container inventory and the current location of all handling equipment.

Intermodal Pro will be deployed at CSX Intermodal's operations at Evansville Western Railway's new Northwest Ohio Terminal (NWOH), which is scheduled to open in early-2011.
