Gist has taken over delivery operations in the UK southwest for office supplies wholesaler, VOW.
The southwest operation comprises 27 vehicles and involves around 275 customer deliveries per day.
The new £3 million contract involved the TUPE transfer of around 43 VOW staff based in Bristol and a network of supporting outbases.
Following this, Gist will assist in the exit from the main VOW Bristol site and the transfer of the operations to two Gist sites, thereby providing VOW with access to shared site infrastructure. The outbases at Exeter, Plymouth and Cardiff will be retained to support the two main operating centres.
The contract to operate the southwest region will be aligned with the wider VOW/Gist contract which involves the daily time-sensitive delivery of office products from VOW's national distribution centre in Lutterworth to its national network of regional distribution centres, radial distribution of VOW's extensive office product range to customers across the Midlands and the provision of a national warehousing and delivery operation for business furniture.
Eddie Stobart, part of Stobart Group, has been awarded a three-year warehousing and distribution contract with AG Barr.
The contract, which will be worth around £18 million over the contract period, involves the consolidation of deliveries at the newly created central stockholding warehouse in Crick and distribution by Eddie Stobart to retailers throughout the UK.
Eddie Stobart will move stock by rail from AG Barr's factory in Cumbernauld to the distribution centre in Crick, which will generate significant environmental savings. Operations are due to commence in May 2010.
Asciano has announced a long-term rail haulage contract with Australian Freight forwarding company Sadleirs Transport that will generate more than $150 million in revenue over the next seven years.
Asciano's Pacific National rail company currently provides Sadleirs with services that transport rail vans between Sydney and Perth. As part of this new agreement, Pacific National will extend this service to accommodate Sadleirs haulage needs between Melbourne to Perth.
Pacific National and Sadleirs Transport have enjoyed a long-term partnership over many years, and this extension and expansion of services will see Pacific National provide all of Sadleirs interstate rail haulage needs to at least 2017.
Sadleirs is entering a new growth phase with redevelopment of its Kewdale, Western Australia rail freight terminal and the construction of a new rail freight terminal in Spotswood, Victoria, both due for completion later this year.
