Italian shipping group becomes sole owner of Swedish port

Jun 26, 2009

The Grimaldi Group has bought the remaining 50% of Swedish ro-ro port, Wallhamn, from co-owner Eukor Car Carriers.

The transaction amount has not been disclosed.

The two companies bought the port in 2005.

The deal provides for Eukor to continue to use Walllhamn under a long-term agreement.

Wallhamn is primarily used for vehicle imports and exports, ro-ro cargo and project cargo, and is the transhipment connection for Grimaldi Lines' weekly Euromed Service to the Mediterranean, and the Grimaldi - Finnlines joint BalticEuroMed ro-ro service to Russia, Finland, Northern Europe and the Mediterranean.

The Grimaldi Group comprises eight main shipping companies, including Atlantic Container Line, Malta Motorways of the Sea, Finnlines and Minoan Lines, and serves 120 ports in 45 countries in the Mediterranean Sea, North Europe, West Africa, and North and South America.

The Group operates a fleet of 120+ vessels, with more under construction for delivery by 2011.
