UPS has extended its contract with Ford Motor Co to continue providing logistics services for the delivery of new cars to dealers.
Through this contract, UPS assists in the management of Ford's North American outbound finished vehicle distribution network, shipping finished vehicles from assembly plants to dealerships in the US, Canada and Mexico.
"While the nation's automotive industry is currently undergoing a dramatic upheaval, UPS's finished vehicle logistics model effectively reduces costs for manufacturers," said Paul Hargadon, general manager of UPS's Automotive Industry Solutions Group.
UPS has worked with Ford since 2000, and has provided improved transit times whilst reducing logistics costs.
As part of the agreement, UPS provides on-site operations management at key Ford distribution points, carrier management, transportation network oversight and contingency support.
