Operated through DHL Global Forwarding's in-house carrier, Danmar Lines, the new service supplements DHL's existing direct LCL services from Hong Kong to Santos and Manaus in Brazil.
DHL is the first major logistics company to offer direct services to Paranagua, Brazil's largest port for shipment of grains and its second biggest maritime terminal.
Paranagua is also a key destination as it offers easy access to inland cities through established road and rail networks.
Brazil's Central Bank expects the country's GDP to increase by 0.1% this year, and businesses are continuously investing in these markets. According to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Brazil is already Hong Kong's second largest export market in Latin America, with total exports up 24% in 2008 to US$1.64 billion.
The new service to Paranagua, goes beyond port-to-port and enhances efficiency by reducing transit time between Hong Kong and to Brazil to 34 days - the fastest compared to current available services. The direct service also eliminates re-handling, which reduces cargo risks.
Since the start of this year, DHL has launched more than twenty direct LCL routes connecting Asia Pacific to the rest of the world, including:
- US to Northern China - Los Angeles to Xingang-Tianjin
- South China to North America - Shenzhen to New York
- India to the UK - Chennai to Felixstowe
