Another new rail service has been launched from the Port of Felixstowe, operated by First GBRf and contracted to the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).
The new 22-wagon train provides a third daily scheduled connection to Hams Hall near Birmingham, and is MSC's second contract service to Hams Hall.
Operating Monday to Saturday, the service increases First GBRf services operating from Felixstowe to a total of five intermodal trains per day.
According to Dan Everitt, managing director of MSC UK, the majority of freight carried on this new service will be new to rail, having previously been transported by road.
The Port of Felixstowe offers a comprehensive daily regional rail distribution network, including nine services to the North West, nine to the Midlands, seven to the North East, one to Scotland and one to London.
The 54 scheduled daily arrivals and departures should provide an opportunity for the Port of Felixstowe to exceed its September 2008 record of 9,111 containers moved by rail in a single week - the best achieved by any UK port.
